Iona

Van 20-26 oktober ben ik op het Schotse eiland Iona, voor een cursus beeldend werken o.l.v. de Britse kunstenaar Kate Walters. Spannend!

We will work in a ceremonial way, but without undue strictness. The work we do there will have power and be gentle; the emphasis will be on the feminine. In the hostel there is a large work room which we will use for practical activities such as guided drawing, monotype, writing, and painting. You will be encouraged to keep a sketch/notebook to record all your insights, dreams, and processes. 

Sinds mei 2016 maak ik min of meer dagelijks een collage. Op 18 mei begonnen uit een impuls, maar inmiddels geen impuls meer. Het is onderdeel van mijn dag geworden. Ochtendinspiratie. Ik zou niet meer zonder willen.

Met deze collages ben ik een ander vakgebied aan het verkennen. En dat is heel verrijkend. Net alsof ik brutaler durf te zijn. Onverschilliger. Nauwkeurig, maar niet te netjes. Het helpt me bij het schrijven. Denk ik. Lastig om te zeggen hoe dan.

Mijn intuïtie is waar ik op vaar – ik heb nauwelijks vakkennis ter beschikking. Al moet ik zeggen dat er wel ambachtelijk inzicht ontstaat. Al doende leert men, is zeker van toepassing. En nu dus een cursus. In Schotland.

The drawing work will not be about making pretty pictures but rather accessing deep bodily impulses (which surface in such a beautiful and pure place) so I hope you would find it inspiring and accessible. Iona is a most impeccable place, seemingly untouched by modern human ways. It is also known as a ‘thin’ place where the veils between worlds are diaphanous. Your dreams may well increase in their clarity and colour; mine always do.
